Key Learning Areas

Learning Stages

The year groups at Christ the King are broken into stages as follows:

Early Stage One Kindergarten
Stage One  Year 1 and Year 2
Stage Two Year 3 and Year 4
Stage Three Year 5 and Year 6

Learning at Christ the King is often integrated across several curriculum areas. The classroom teacher ensures that the teaching program follows the guidelines set down by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) and covers all curriculum areas.

Our staff work directly with students and parents to provide personalised and relevant learning in line with the curriculum and our Key Learning Area's which provide students with a holistic approach to learning. We integrate technology into learning to provide students with the 21st century skills and problem-solving ability needed for the future of our workforce, preparing our students to go out and make positive changes in the world.

Our Key Learning Areas

The Key Learning Area's taught at Christ the King encompass seven subjects. These Key Learning Area's are in line with our curriculum, as well as the guidelines set by the NSW Education Standard Authority (NESA).

Religious Education

Our diocesan Religious Education program is integral to all that we do within our school. We aim to lead the students to a better understanding of their own Catholic tradition and emphasise the influence of the Holy Spirit at work in the lives of the students.

English

In English, students develop knowledge, skills & understanding of English language and literature which has a wider role as a means of learning in all Key Learning Areas.

Mathematics

Students analyse and solve problems in the areas of space, measurement and number. Maths also involves the study of patterns and relationships, and provides a means of communication.

Science and Technology

Students are given opportunities to learn about natural and man-made environments by engaging in scientific and technological activity. Students investigate, design, make and use technology.

Human Society and its Environment

HSIE deals with the interactions of people with one another and with the social, cultural and physical environments.

Creative Arts

Creative Arts includes the art forms of dance, drama, visual arts and music. Learning in these art forms engages students in developing their abilities to make works and appraise their own works and that of others. A specialist music teacher is available for all students three days a week (Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday).

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education

PDHPE helps students develop self esteem, social responsibility, personal fitness and the ability to make informed decisions about health and lifestyle. A specialist sports teacher is available three days a week (Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday), and further sports activities are conducted by specialist organisations in an additional lesson on Fridays.
