Educating for the future
The learning journey at Christ the King honours the developmental stages in a student’s life. Based on leading educational research and the best of today’s technologies, we prepare students for the future by teaching them how to think critically and creatively, how to communicate effectively and how to lead and work both independently and collaboratively.
Educating for the future
The key learning areas
We follow the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) approved curriculum in the key learning areas of:
Religious education
As a Catholic school we also have a strong religious dimension that runs through all the KLAs and is also formally recognised as the KLA of Religious Education.
Christ the King students take part in formal Religious Education every day, based on the new Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese curriculum, Encountering Jesus. This curriculum invites all students to consider how the teachings of Jesus Christ can apply to their lives.
Religious education
Learning at our school uses flexible, innovative and creative teaching practices, coupled with modern technology, to motivate our students to become the best learners they can be.
Our curriculum is child-centred. We acknowledge that children learn best when they see purpose in their learning and know the outcomes they are working to achieve. Our expert teachers ensure that learning experiences are responsive to children's individual needs as learning is enhanced when students are able to relate learning activities to their everyday experience.
While delivering the curriculum we provide opportunities for inquiry, learning, problem solving, group interaction, creative thinking and decision-making.
As the building blocks for all learning, we have a strong focus on Literacy and Numeracy throughout our learning and teaching programs.
Literacy
We are focused on helping our students develop the knowledge, skills and understanding of language and literature they require to support their learning across all other Key Learning Areas.
For students who require additional support, we offer the Reading Recovery program. This is an intensive daily literacy program where a student works one on one with a Specialist Teacher over a ten week program.
Numeracy
Our teachers help students learn to analyse and solve problems in the areas of space, measurement and number. Students also focus on the study of patterns and relationships, and how they provide a means of communication.
For additional support we offer the Extending Mathematical Understanding program (EMU). This intervention program aims to improve students’ knowledge and confidence with mathematics. EMU offers intensive learning opportunities for mathematically vulnerable students including a small group intervention led by a Specialist Teacher.
We offer a varied curriculum that is engaging and relevant!
